Re:Monstars ~ Prologue 02: Lesson Learned

So I chose to die... again and again... until I'm reborn as a Lizardman.

FINALLY.

While I still don't really understand how things can work, I THINK as a LizardMAN I might be able to do something... like, learning human languages!

I mean, surely this would be easier than being a bee, a slime, a black horse, a rat, a chicken... whatever. THOSE, ok? THOSE. Those that couldn't even pronounce "a" properly without even making other weird sounds! I can't even "Ah" when I'm in bed!

Dammit.

So yeah. As a Lizardman. My rate of learning different languages should be MUCH easier now!

I leveled up myself - as usual - and continued forward to gain some friends to help me out with my journey. Some seemed surprised about my plans, but some just seemed to look forward to it.

So, since I was a human born in this world, I've already learned all kinds of human languages... now it's the matter of re-learning how to speak using a lizard's vocal cord. It took me like a few days to learn the human language - GREAT! - and now I can finally converse with one... though I haven't really try it out yet.

Humans aside, speaking "monster" is another thing that I need to learn. After using "Stealth" to get close to a Goblin settlement, I found out that they speak in the way that's close to Orcs and Humans... so it increased my chance to learn the language. The longer I listen to them, the easier I learn. So... in between my daily survival jobs and needs and training myself 12 hours a day, I came to hide close to the Goblin's settlement and learn their language.

Viola!

[ Goblin Speech Learned! ]

That took me like, a few weeks? And now, I proposed an idea to my chieftain to open trade with the Goblins. From my stalki- I mean, scouting experiences, I realized that they're actually pretty good with the forest, while the Lizardman tribe does better in the sea. So, if we managed to trade whatever we gathered from different places, perhaps we can establish a better economy and hopefully making an alliance in the future? If we can help each other to survive, there might be a better chance for me to make peace with more settlements.

I mean, we don't really NEED to kill each others to survive, right?

But will the other party accept my idea? That's the thing where everyone's questioning.

Nevertheless, since I'm the only one who learned Goblin, I'm entrusted to negotiate with them - which I would have already done if I do not require permissions.

So, I came to the Goblin settlement and WOAH THEY NEARLY KILLED ME! Thanks to my constant dodging when it comes to moles- I mean, examining fellow females in my tribe, those arrows meant nothing to me.

But eh, arrows... Last time when I was a human, Goblins were weaklings and they're stupid. They have low intelligence and they only know how to fight with lowly weapons - without formations. Through my constant observations, however, there's a strong leader with high intelligence here. Otherwise, the Goblins wouldn't know how to create bows and arrows, learn how to ambush people with arrows, or making loads of traps outside their, uh, cave???

"WAIT! I'M HERE TO NEGOTIATE!!!"

That clearly caused confusions between the Goblins. They couldn't comprehend how a Lizardman could speak their language. After a few moments, they sent out a team of heavily equipped strong Hobgoblins.

"You. Lizard. The leader calls."

"Come alone."

Eh. Alone.

"C-Couldn't I bring at least ONE guard with me? I mean, it's obvious you guys can just kill me off inside when things gone bad and probably nobody will know so... if the negotiation takes a very long time, I don't want them to went on a rampage simply because they don't know how to speak with you guys... alright?"

The Hobgoblins looked at each other, then back at their base. Someone gave an ok from the inside, and they nodded.

"You can bring two."

"Alright!" I grinned at them, and picked my most trusted comrades with me. So I walked in, and...

Wow. It's like a dream.

The leader is a female hobgoblin. Not to say that she's very attractive, but she's definitely a beauty in my eyes. It's funny how the discussion happened from open trade between our settlements to, uh, clearing the room off except for the both of us to have some very, very, private discussions.

Cough.

Anyway, she accepted our tribe's request to open trade with her... and also some other things that we privately agreed upon. So from today onwards, the relationship between the Goblins and the Lizardman is strong and soon we started an alliance. We didn't really "conquer" the rest of the forest... rather, we actively went searching for more possible partners.

And people started to question what are the "partners" that we're looking for. Well, not ONLY trade partners, of course!

Aaand after like a year and more, the whole forest became a community. Soon, it evolved into a thriving town of monsters where humans were welcomed as long as they do not cause any troubles to the people in the forest. Rules were set and posts were made. Lovely partners everywhere and things were going fine...

Until this one day where a human came to us and offered to open trade with us as well. Well, obviously we accepted... but damn, the prices were high and the items ain't all that great. We argued with the humans but obviously they were looking down at us monsters. When we broke off the agreement later, the humans came to sue us for breaking off the agreement. Obviously they couldn't do anything about us monsters, so...

Bad rumors started and suddenly a group of adventurers took on the mission to destroy the city of monsters. Why would they do that??? They're allowed to use the city's facilities and yet they just threw that privilege away! Some of the humans tried to negotiate with them too... but it seemed like the pay is too good to pass this chance up.

Eh.

What the fuck?

Anyway, to defend ourselves, obviously we tried our best to defeat the adventurers without killing them... but even that wouldn't help the situation. After numerous mission failures, deeming us as a threat, the humans started to send in armies to destroy us.

What the heck-

Dude. We didn't do wrong! What makes you want to destroy us?! Is living in peace and harmony that hard?! Moreover, you were the ones that do us wrong! All we did were only for self-defense! This is unfair. This is injustice! Why would you take up missions like that and destroy the monsters without even listening to their plead?

...

Come to think about it, when I was a human, I was constantly taking up missions because, well, I can. I have the capabilities, and the pay was good. I never once questioned the motive behind the missions. I just... took on them. Racking up on experiences, building up reputations, gaining more comrades to take on higher ranked missions so that I can have more fame and fortune...

Everything's... like a game.

But no. This is CLEARLY not just a game!

I...

I finally realized it...

I truly brought calamity when I was a human. I didn't cared about the consequences. I was foolish and selfish, even though I thought what I did were for the fellow humans and cared nothing for the monsters - because I didn't even treat them as a living being. I treat them merely as golds and experiences; missions and reputations.

Damn.

Damn it all...

= = = = = = = = = =

And then I opened my eyes again, remembering the last scene that happened in front of me - houses were destroyed and people were killed. The humans were coldblooded killers, thinking only about the pays rather than the lives that they killed. One more dead monster equals to one more gold and/or experience - bringing them closer to leveling up and learning new skills. No matter if they're truly evil or innocent - they just killed them all because they were all foods for their greed.

Sigh.

All my partners... I hope that they survive. I mean, if I'm the foolish one who started everything, I'm the one that should die in the first place. I guess I'm too naive to think that we can successfully have peace and harmony with everyone including the humans, whom only see us as nothing but lowly monsters.

Golds and experiences.

"Do you see the truth now?"

Yes, my dear god. I have.

"Do you regret your past actions?"

Yes. Yes I do. I have destroyed families and happiness. I didn't even cared about how they would feel. I took their child and lured them out, to kill them off and then killed the child - neglecting their plead for their child's safety as they would exchange their lives for me.

I couldn't understand them.

I'm... a devil.

A true monster.

"Good," The white robed figure stood in front of me. I couldn't see the face of his clearly, but I do see the smile on his face. "Now, do you know what do I mean by balance in the world?"

...kind of? I mean, all I learned from being a Lizardman were my ignorant actions causing destructions... but I can't see how to balance things up.

"Hmph, of course it's not that easy to learn how to balance the world. What do you think you are, a god?" Ah, it's Synchia. She didn't seemed to be as furious as I first seen her. "Well, at least you learned your lesson. There's no need to be extremely angry this time."

So... I'm doing better now? I'm closer to the path of balance?

"I guess it would be... and to help you out, your past experiences and blessings from various gods will keep on following you in this reincarnation."

Eh. Speaking of blessings... I REALLY racked up a lot of them during my time as a Lizardman, eh?

"UGH! Speaking of those disgusting actions you did... How dare you have partners from all over the places?! Y-You caused weird hybrids to be born a-a-and you're a female and yet y-you just-! I-I-I couldn't believe you j-just- UGH!" Ara. Dear god Synchia's all red right now. Have you been watching? "O-Of course I have! I have to monitor your actions as a creation of mine and so that you wouldn't go around and destroy stuffs again and finally understand your actions but T-THIS-" Well, it's hot right? "S-SHUT UP!!!"

"Cough. I think we should continue on with her journey of balancing the world now..." Alaraid spoke, preparing something...?

"Oh dear, I wonder what kind of sexy things that she will do now. Mmhmm~ <3" Eh, there's another god around here??? I didn't saw her before?

"It's very intriguing seeing all sorts of creatures managed to find out new ways to pleasure each other. I have never thought of them..." And yet another god? He's pushing his glasses???

"WHY ARE ALL OF YOU SO INTERESTED IN HER FUCKING LIFE?!" Yeah! My "fucking" life! "S-SHUT UP YOU INSOLENT- UUUUUUUGHHH!!!" Ara, red again~ How cute~ <3 "FUCK YOU!" Ooohhh~ Is that an invitation? "D-DAMMIT!!!"

Ah. Sho cute. <3 I don't mind bearing her loud screams everyday... if you get what I mean.

"NO I DON'T AND I DON'T WANT TO GODDAMMIT SHIT JUST GO DOWN AND REINCARNATE ALREADY!!!"

Aaaaaaalright~ As you wish~ I'll find more ways to make you proud, ok?

"Alright, alright, it's time," Alaraid sighed and patted on me - I have a head? "Good luck young one. We'll watch over you from here...

...though... you might find yourself loads of challenges. I guess you could handle them smoothly."

Eh?

Ehhh???

EHHH---?!
